Privacy Policy

Short version: YouTube Playback Controller does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data. Everything you configure stays inside your own browser.
1. Data we collect
None that identifies you. The extension stores your preferences — playback presets, default speed, keyboard shortcuts, automation rules and profiles — using the browser’s built-in extension storage (storage.sync / storage.local). This data lives in your browser and, if you are signed into your browser account, may sync across your own devices via the browser vendor. We never receive it.
2. Permissions & why
- storage — to save your settings locally.
- tabs — to apply the chosen speed to the active YouTube tab and keep the toolbar badge accurate.
- host access to YouTube (youtube.com, music.youtube.com, youtu.be) — to read and set the video’s playback rate.
3. The one optional network call
If — and only if — you enable the optional dislike count feature, the extension requests public vote data from the third-party Return YouTube Dislike API. The only information sent is the video ID of the video you are watching. No cookies, account identifiers, IP-linked profiles, or personal data are sent by the extension. This feature is off by default. When disabled, the extension makes no external network requests.
4. Analytics & tracking
The extension contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no fingerprinting and no telemetry. This marketing website self-hosts its web font; no cookies are set by us.
5. Data sharing
We have no servers and no database, so there is nothing to share, sell, or hand over. Your settings never leave your control.
6. Children’s privacy
The extension is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will also be noted in the project’s release notes.
8. Questions
This policy describes our data practices in full. Because the extension has no servers and collects no personal data, there is no account or record for us to look up. Any updates to these practices will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
